WORSHIP MUSIC

Organ Pipes_edited.jpg

The core of the music ministry at St. John’s is our choir, cantors and our musician. The choir sings September through June. We sing a wide selection of both traditional and non-traditional hymns that are chosen with regard to the lectionary and the church calendar. The music comes from The Hymnal 1982, "Wonder, Love and Praise” and “Voices Found," along with various other resources. We have compiled a separate hymn booklet with music from these sources.

We use both a pipe organ and a piano during our Sunday worship services. The organ underwent major restoration in 2016. Kerner and Merchant Pipe Organ Builders performed this restoration, which included an overhaul of the organ console (the part that contains the keyboards). We use the organ for some parts of the service, and we play the piano for other sections which helps to give a different tone and meaning to the music.

St. John’s music program has a long partnership with the renowned

Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York. This relationship has

provided us with an ongoing supply of talented music students and

                                                                                     graduates. We are

currently excited to work with Jonathon Mamora, a Ph.D. candidate at
Eastman.
